Pointing at the names of any of the files or folders on my favorites list makes them disappear--and they reappear when the pointer is moved away. This occurs only in the favorites pane and started doing this only today after I adjusted the color on my monitor. Any suggestions for reapair would be appreciated.

Save your display color theme with a name of choice and then choose another theme such a default something or other.

If problem goes away, something in the theme you are using now is the problem. Maybe your highlight color choice or your font color choice. Dunno' at this point.

    Ann,

Your suggestion showed that indeed the problem has something to do with my custom theme. A variety of other custom themes show the same problem but the problem doesn't occur with the prefab themes.

I'm trying to create nonglare backgrounds on Windows and the Internet. Since my aged eyes are more bothered by glare than by disappearing folder and file names, I may have to stick with my custom color theme.

    Thanks for your help.

There was always some bugs in all versions of windows when using accessibilty features such as high contrast color schemes or a particular combination of color/font/font_size/display adapter/resolution/color_depth.....any combination of the above can produce problems.

I would have hoped that they got some of the kinks out of it by now but I guess not. Let me look around and see what the known XP bugs are and check out your options.

It's probably going to boil down to experimentation_trial and error in finding the right combination. Maybe less color resolution, smaller font size, etc.

Shoot, there may even be a patch or a fix and is included in current XPsp or IE updates. I will return when I have something more concrete to offer.

You still may be able to use your preference just tweak it a bit. This effect usually happens when the background of the window is the same color as the font when it is highlighted, Example:
A white background using a darktext such as black. When the mouse hovers or highlights it, it changes the text to white. Poof! No more text [sorta]. Same effect if the Background was any color that inverts into a white shade and the Highlight color was White. Solution would be to chage Text color or Highlight color or font color to some shade whose inverted or highlighted shade did not make it vanish.
