    Hi All.

I've been giving an oldish 'dead' pc as it was no use to the owners anymore.
i tried swapping the PSU for a known good one, but there was no change.
What's the best way to narrow down the field and confirm what part is causing this machine not to boot?

btw, by dead i mean completely dead, no noise, no beeps etc.

    Regards
    Spotta

Remove everything from the motherboard (memory, PCI cards, video card and IDE cables) and power it up. If you don't get any beeps from the speaker then the motherboard or CPU is dead.

    Hi,
    Do any lights flash?
The PSU fan does not start spinning?
    So I suppose not.

One thing it may be is a bad power button. Take the power switch cable off the motherboard connector and momentarily short the two pins with the tip of a screwdriver.

    Matt
