I have a Toshiba Laptop using Windows Vista. It has of course WiFi capability and I have been trying to install printer software so that I can print from that laptop if necessary. The printer is a HP Photosmart 309g hooked via USB to a Desktop System running Windows XP. The 309g has wireless features also through a Netgear Router. The printer has recognized my wireless network but when I install the software on my laptop, I end up with a 'fatal installation error" How do I go about finding out why this is happening?

Most printer software I've used requires the software to be installed without the printer connected until the software instructs you to.
Have you tried switching off your wi-fi connection and installing the software to your laptop first? Neil.

Oh yea! In fact, I turned off the router and printer while installing the software.
    The error msg reads in part; fatal installation error D/hpzprlol.exe -inf-m preload_drivers . . . .

Are the Drivers compatible? Have you had a look in HP site to see if others are having the same problem? Neil.

Do you have any drivers/software installed from your previous printer/s? Uninstall those in Programs and Features, also look for anything installed for this printer and uninstall that, before trying the installation again.

If you want to keep using the old printer, reinstall the software after you get the new one working.

Go to the printer's webpage at the HP website
    www.hp.com/support
There will be drivers to download there, installation and troubleshooting information.

I actually have no other printers installed on the laptop. The HP Software says it is compatible with Vista so, I still don't know why it will not load on the laptop. Have tried may different ways including downloading the software from HP and installing. Same problem. As the printer is out of warranty, I can't get anywhere with HP.

Yea, I did the same thing but in these cases Windows XP was being used. Maybe the problem lies with Vista, I don't know. Am trying similar fixes but with different variations. We'll get back to you if anything pops.
