Hi: I used to use Norton Internet Security 2001 and had no problems whatsoever, for many years. Two months ago, I uninstalled that program and replaced it with NIS 2005 and have had nothing but headaches since that time. Symantec and I have been corresponding once or twice a week, with no resolution. I have spent over 40 hours, uninstalling and reinstalling, etc., to no avail. Without fail, when I get online, within 5 to 15 minutes, I first get the error: "Windows Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 0028:C00FAE35 in VXD SAVRT(02) + 0000C4C1. The current application will be terminated." I then hit the spacebar once, and I get: "Fatal Exception OD has occurred at 0246:017747FB." Then I hit the spacebar again, and sometimes I can continue, until the next error, but usually it closes everything and takes me back to the desktop.
Symantec has offered many suggestions, none of which have helped, the latest of which to update my device drivers. I ran Windows Update, and everything was current. I also checked each driver individually in System Devices and each said, "The best driver Windows found is already installed for the device." I am ready to uninstall NIS 2005 for good and go back to NIS 2001 (although that doesn't offer as much protection as the 2005 version) or go to the new Verizon security program (as I use Verizon DSL). I couldn't find anything in the Windows BBS archives or on Microsoft.com for these specific errors, so if anyone has any suggestions in the next week or so, I'd be delighted to entertain any and all suggestions. (There is 8GB of room left on my 14GB hard drive, so space is not an issue.) Thank you so much for your time!
    Susan

If you have "Norton Internet Security 2005 Antispyware Edition," according to Symantec's site here, it is not compatible with Windows 98.

If it's not the "Antispyware Edition," it's supposed to be compatible with Windows 98 but I have my doubts.

Also keep in mind that Norton stuff is a huge resource hog. If you are running a new version of Norton on an older machine, your computer may just not have enough power to run it.

    Fatal Exception OE ....

Dear Miz: Thank you for your reply. I had read the system requirements before I bought NIS 2005, so I knew I couldn't get anything with the spyware program in it and use it with Windows 98. You're probably right...even though I THINK I have plenty of room on the hard drive, maybe the speed or memory just isn't there to support NIS 2005 (what a great description... "a huge resource hog ")! I'm pretty tired of dickering with Symantec...they offer new suggestions every time they write, but nothing solves the problem. Maybe I'll just go back to Norton 2001, at least for now. It's probably time for a new computer anyway, that's bigger and better and faster and has a newer OS...then this one can be my spare. Thanks again for taking the time to write!
