    hello,
for ABSOLUTELY NO APPARENT REASON, every time i post to news groups i get the following:
    "windows "
    an f e (0e) occured @ hexAddress vxd ifsmgr(01) + <hexAddress> this was called from <hexAddress> in vxd pppmac(01) + <hexAddress>
    -may be able to continue
press any key etc ect etc.
(any key doesn't work however when i do c a + del i go right back into windows and am still connected.)
i have a news (actually now 2) news profiles seperate from my normal mail and so far my reg mail has not caused this.
if i post a message and disconnect the dialer then it (so far) has not blue screened.
i cannot find anything out re: this problem except for a mention of upDating tcp/ip but wonder why since i have the same for regular email and browsing it has not caused other problems.
fwiw searching the pc brings up the following:
pppmac and it states created sunday 7/29, 2001 and
    modified:
august 24, 1966 (version: 4.00.950) (?modified BEFORE it was created?)
ifsmgr: created "unknown" modified august 24, 1996 version = 4.00.1111
i would GREATLY appreciate your expertise
(i have nn 4.77 on a win98SE and on another win95B with no problem)
for example can these files be replaced? (they are in win\system folder or does nn perhaps require its own?
    THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!
    sincerely
    Tanya

If you are getting these errors on a Win95B machine, do you have the Windows Sockets 2 (winsock2) Update and the Dial-up-Networking 1.3 (or 1.4) update for Win95 installed?

Here is what I have in my notes on the error:

I've seen this on the Netscape communicator newsgroup and the suggested fix is to apply the winsock 2 update. Here's a copy of the post, from my
    notes. Alice

Depending upon your version of Windows '95, you may benefit from a Winsock update. Read carefully...

    You're welcome Tanya.

I was getting the same errror and installing the DUN 1.3 and Winsock 2 updates fixed it fro me. Later on I also applied the y2k updates. I copied the following from my update notes:

9/28/99 Did the DUN 1.3 Upgrade.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/...mmended/S_WUNetworking/dun13win95/Default.asp
Dial Up Networking 1.3 Performance & Security Update
Ran msdun13.exe from Start/Run, (browsed to my Alice\Setup\Pending\DUN13 folder).
After rebooting, got message about missing files, directed it to Windows\Options\Cabs for
    - nwserver.vxd
    - hosts.sam (had to go twice to Cabs)

[After the pc rebooted and began installing the files, I got a message that the file hosts.sam couldn't be found. I selected C:\Windows\Options\Cabs from the drop-down list (Windows\System was the default), then it came back
with the same message, that hosts.sam couldn't be found! I put in the Cabs location again from the drop-down list and this time it found
it. That didn't happen with the first file it didn't find, nwserver.vxd. That file was located in Windows\Options\Cabs on the first try.]
    Restarted PC.

    10/8/99 installed Winsock 2 update.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/...s/s_wunetworkingtools/w95sockets2/default.asp
Did it by first CAD and closing all programs, then going to Start|Run and browsing to C:\Alice\Setup\Pending\Winsock2\W95ws2setup.exe
Got message that update was successful and to check the log file in C:\Windows\ws2setup.log.
    and, to Uninstall, run C:\Windows\ws2bakup\ws2bakup.bat.

    Note:
After installing both updates, install the Microsoft DUN 1.3 and Winsock2 Year 2000 Update
(there's a link to that on both the DUN1.3 and the Windows Sockets 2 update pages)
