I run Win 98SE and have Family Tree Maker 2005 installed. I have not used it for some time but today had an inquiry about some dates and went to open it and received and error as attached. I ran system file checker and came back OK, uninstalled the FTM program after saving my backups and reinstalled but still the same, would not open and received the error, I put in my Win 98SE disk and replaced the GDI32.dll and rebooted but it did not help. I can not remember when I used it last [a couple of months ago] and it worked OK then. I ran a scandisk and defrag, ran AdAware and my virus program scan, ran reg checker and Ccleaner but nothing has helped. I have loaded the program on another machine and copied my backups to it so I have my files but I use my laptop the most and when I travel to family like to take my Family tree Maker with me. Any ideas that I have not tried?

    Thanks,quickshot

The problem could be with either file listed. "MSIMG32.DLL" is trying to use the "GdiGradientFill" within the file "GDI32.DLL ".

It might be that your "GDI32.DLL" file is too old and doesn't contain the "GdiGradientFill ", or maybe your "MSIMG32.DLL" file is corrupt and is attempting to access "GdiGradientFill" from the wrong DLL.

You are so right, I had been replacing the GDI32.dll with no luck and so I went to System File Checker and replaced the MSIMG32.dll with my Win 98SE disk and that did it. I remember that I had tried to install PrimoPDF before they put a warning on installing the 2.0 version on Win 98 machines-that is what did it. Thanks for the reply.
