I know, I know - it's a beast of a program, more trouble than it's worth, and these things don't really do much that is useful, and can do real harm if you're not careful... Phew.

However, I'm fond of it.

Now my problem is after a few normal starts, System Mechanic fails to start properly. This is now a regular occurrence. I have to completely uninstall it, reinstall - it then works for a day or so - and then fails. I can't keep uninstalling and reinstalling System Mechanic 7. What is going on? Why does it fail to initialise properly after a while? It's not freezing. It gets as far as showing in the task bar - then that disappears (rapidly), then, nothing... Does anyone know if this a known bug? Or is my system losing a crucial file/bit of memory somewhere along the line?

All that Iolo Support can suggest is to completely uninstall it, and then reinstall it. Been there, done that...

Interestingly, occasionally Windows Defender (I know, I know...) also shows a propensity to forget that it has run a scan recently, and tells me that it hasn't done so for 6 or 7 days when this is just untrue. Do you think these might be related errors on my system, which is otherwise now purring along very nicely...?

Running Win XP Pro SP2 completely up to date. Also ZoneAlarm Pro 7.x, F-Prot AV (6.0x), Javacools Spywareblaster, Latest Java

Forget it! Iolo (System Mechanic) are 'currently working on the issue'... So it's SM7 bug, after all. :)
