I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but I'm going to try. My friend got hold of a desktop with 98 installed and is trying to put xp on it. It keeps going into the bios with the message "error: failure fixed disk 0 ". Unfortunately I don't have any specs on the cp but could anyone shed some light on this issue? He has used two different drives with the same issue. Thanks.

    Fixed disk failure

Make sure the hard drive is detected in the Bios (Automatic). Check that the jumper on the hard drive is in the correct location (Master). Try a different IDE cable. Make sure all connections to the hard drive are correctly positioned. If those steps don't help it could be the drives are bad or the IDE controller on the motherboard is bad.
