I used F3 to access system and add a startup password. Now I want to remove it, but F3 does nothing, no matter when I use it during startup. Is there a command I can put in to get there?.............I don't think I opted to put a separate password to get into the config. mode. Help for a computer dummie learning the hard way??

    Hi, noahdfear ~

Are you referring to getting into BIOS before Windows loads?

If so, depending on the manufacturer, usually F2 gets you into the BIOS setup utility. You need to hit it as soon as you see the splash screen with the manufacturer logo.

Once you are in you will need to use your arrows to get to the 'Security' tab. Then navigate your way to 'Supervisor Password' & 'User Password' and clear them both if not already.

Finally, navigate to 'Password on Boot' & 'Password on Resume' and disable them both.

Hit F10 to save and exit.

~Depending on the version of BIOS you have, some of this may be slightly different~

    Hi noahdfear

On my Ausus board with Award Bios it is Delete so try this if F2 doesn't work.

Usually the boot up screen tells you which key to hit.

If it is, in fact, the BIOS you are trying to get into, this is a pretty good list of methods to enter setup:

Some computers will not allow you to enter BIOS until a board jumper is changed.

Thanks guys! It turned out to be F1. I hit it at power up and after entering the password the BIOS config screen came right up. Good link Abraxas! Don't know why F3 was stuck in my head. Thanks again......... Dave :D

Thanks for posting back. I usually start with Del, then F10 (usually Compaqs), and then F1. That gets me into 99% of them.

    But never heard of F3 ;) .
