Does anyone use F-Secure? I have heard good & bad things about their AV.

My company used it for a couple of months on six servers that we lease from a data center. We never could confirm if the scheduled weekly full scans were running or not...There were two different log files - but they didn't update...We ended up switching to Norton 2009 AV.

OK, thanks for the info. Looks like I'll stick with McAfee then as it seems to be fine. I was just curious. The F-Secure Weblog just looks so interesting. Could just be good advertising!

My ISP offer it as a freebie. I used it for a year but could not figure out if it was actually doing anything (like updating). Anyway... when I bought my new computer I opted to switch over to McAfee and I've been satisfied with what it has done.

That's interesting James. A lot of people tend to react to McAfee rather like vampires reputedly do to garlic & crucifixes. I've even had people get nasty with me when I have stated that not only do I use it, but I am quite pleased with it. I get it with my ISP free. It's also rated very highly by these guys.

I originally had Bullguard (uses the Bit Defender engine) but changed to Norton because it was then free with my ISP. It was never that problematical but I wouldn't recommend Norton to anyone. I far prefer McAfee, which I would.

I hear you, Davezilla. There are people on this forum who turn rabid over McAfee. I had one poster challenge me repeatedly, wanting to send me links whereby I could go and discover for myself just how bad McAfee really was. LOL I think a lot of times folks argue for certain programs because they're the programs they use and it's a way of legitimizing them and in turn makes them feel good about their choices. I've always said, if it's working... leave it alone. Why fix something that isn't broken? My wife and I (we each have our own computers) have now been using McAfee for more than a year without any issues whatsoever. We have about nine months left in our two-year subscription and all things being equal, we'll probably just continue with it. That doesn't mean I automatically find fault with other programs. I don't. My attitude is, if your current program is working for you... stick with it. That doesn't translate into you're becoming a zealous missionary for that program. It means exactly what I've said above.

    All the best.

I've had that as well (must be some form of anti McAfee cult LOL). My brother is a software engineer & he uses McAfee. I asked him about this & he replied that any AV is only really as good as its fingerprint database. He doesn't like Norton either. The fact is that no AV is 100% perfect. On my laptop McAfee works fine & doesn't bug me. In fact I believe it has tools which can defrag your computer & empty your temporary folder. Plus you can run a scan & it will close down your computer afterwards if it doesn't find anything.

Yeah, that's good advice. Mind you, I do like to tinker with stuff....

& ya know where that leads to...

Dealing with computer infection for quite a while, my opinion about McAfee is really low.

Also, in most cases, those normally good AV programs like F-secure, when delivered through ISP, they come downsized features, so usually, they're not that good.

Yes, I know. You've made it known several times. I've no reason to mistrust you, but no reason to put any confidence in you either for several good reasons: 1. I've had no issues... none. Nor has my wife. Not a single blip. 2. The guys at av-comparatives think reasonably high of McAfee. They have tools you don't. They have a much broader testing base. They have no vested interest. Why should I doubt their findings? 3. Consumer Reports also rates McAfee highly. Consumer Reports does not accept any money for advertising and has no interests in touting one program over another. CNET also give it a high rating as does PCmag. All told, professional testing sites give it a thumb's up rating. Good enough for me.

As for F-Secure and what an ISP offers, I'm not sure where you're getting your information but the product supplied by Charter was a full version of the product and not stripped down as you are claiming. Perhaps you could supply us with proof of that statement. I'd be willing to retract my statement in regards to other AV programs and other ISPs. I know firsthand, however, that Charter does not deliver a downsized program.

Don't they put it in the top four best on the market? ;)
