I have a problem with the extremely slow file moving / copying / deleting & installation of files.

This happens after an update I do with our computer reservation system. (It's happened twice now so I know something corresponding to it in some way is causing the problem.)

1.) Windows 7 - 64 bit systems (we have 35 computers all the same for public usage)
I do an update on our Reservation system controller, and that update goes out to our client computers and gives them the update.
Well, 3 of our computers did not get the client update. So I have to reboot those, and try to manually install the update.
The 3 computers, when I copy the file to the desktop it soooo slow, the install is very slow, and then copying files from our network and deleting files on the computer also is painfully slow.
    The other computers work fine.

***This happened to me about 6 months ago on a completely different set of computers. A handful of the computers updated fine, the ones that didn't, again I had this problem on. (I tried every windows fix I could do and eventually gave up after a few weeks and reformatted the pcs. Then all was back to normal.)

The PC Reservation software company says it's not their problem because their software doesn't make changes to windows, the registry, etc. They say it's a windows problem or a network problem.
Yet this has happened twice now to me, that those that do not get this update from the reservation software have the issues. All the other computers copy/delete, etc. just fine at normal speed.

Is there anything specific I could look at to find the problem?
    Thanks for any ideas!

Hi melanieh. Does this behavior occur when trying to copy and run any kind of executable file on the affected machines? Are there any issues reported in Device Manager?

I am assuming no other changes were made to the affected machines to trigger the strange behavior? Have you tried performing a clean boot in Windows to make sure no other programs are interfering with the computer reservation system? As a test if you remove the computer reservation software from the affected machines, does the performance go back to normal?

--The behavior happens when trying to copy and file from our network to the desktop.
-- Specifically, it is absurdly slow when trying to run the PC reservation client software executable. Running also our SmartShield executable is slow.
Smartshield is our hard drive protection.... I disable that on all computers before loading anything new. Right now it is disabled on my problematic computers. (Whether SmartShield is disabled or enabled, the problem computers have the same issue.)

Other programs I have on our network drive, I can select and they appear to run as normal.
I can download an executable from the internet, such as a adwcleaner, and download and install it quickly.

Are there any issues reported in Device Manager?
--I do not see anything in the Device Manager marked with an issue.

I am assuming no other changes were made to the affected machines to trigger the strange behavior?
--Correct. Nothing else was done, on this update.

Have you tried performing a clean boot in Windows to make sure no other programs are interfering with the computer reservation system?
--I can boot in Safe Mode with Networking and I can copy/delete, etc. files without any problems at all.

As a test if you remove the computer reservation software from the affected machines, does the performance go back to normal?
--No. If I let the software run and run and run and finally install or install in safe mode with networking. The pc reservation software runs correctly, but copy/deleting, etc. files from our network is still painfully slow.
If I remove the software, same problem. Everything is still slow.

    thanks!

**To me it appears to be some problem with SmartShield and the PC Reservation client software.
(But each blames the other or our network.) Yet I can do any network item like copy a file, or Smartshield install or a manual pc reservation client install, or delete files from the desktop from any other computer fine as normal. Only the ones affected are the ones that did not get this automatic update from the reservation system.

    Update:
I did uninstall SmartShield and the PC Res Client (through safe mode... the client I had installed in safe mode earlier)

Still the same problems in a normal boot trying to copying/install the pc res client files, etc.

I uninstalled SmartShield, uninstalled everything related to the pc reservation company and then could install items.

So I am back in business.

Excellent. So if you keep the SmartShied program uninstalled and then reinstall the PC reservation system software, does the computers performance stay at an optimal level?

Yes everything is working at the level it should now.

(I did install both the pc reservation system and smartshield, and with both of them, it runs fine now again.)

That's good to hear. Do you have any other questions that I can help to answer or are you satisfied with the conclusion of this thread?
