    Hello,
We have two servers here, the PDC which is a Windows NT SBS 4.5, and a BDC which is a Windows NT 4 server. The SBS server was our first server. The NT server was just added last year.
The problem I am having is, in order to get our backup software (Veritas Backup Exec 8.6) to back up our Exchange Information Stores, I have to have the Exchange Administrator utility running on the backup server, which is the NT 4 server. The exchange server is on the SBS server. What I need to know is if there is a way to install the Echange Administrator utility on the NT4 server from the SBS disks without having to purchase a new Exchange Server license.

Oh yes, we are running Exchange 5.5 with the latest service pack.

AFAIK the Exchange Agent in Backup Exec has to be running on the Exchange server itself

You'll also need a mail client on the Exchange server in order for it to work properly - MAPI profile required

    Veritas Documentation is pretty good

    http://support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BEWNT.htm

Question 5 of the FAQ should give you tthe help you need

According to the documentation I found at the Veritas website, (http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/243472.htm)
"Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server must be installed on the Media Server (backup server) in order to backup remote and local Microsoft Exchange 5.5 and 2000 servers. Also, install a valid license for Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server for each Exchange Server to be protected. "
We have the license for the Agent for MSE. But according to the same document the Microsoft Exchange 5.x Administrator has to be installed on the 'media server' (Veritas' phrase for the server that hosts the backup software). What I need to know is how to extract the administrator utility from the SBS disk so we can do a remote backup.

You need a copy of the evaluation/full version of Exchange Server 5.5 (exch55i.exe) to install the admin console.
