external HD stopped showing up in my computer

I have a 100gb 2.5" external USB HD, it was running fine all of a sudden it stopped showing up as a drive in my system, I looked in the device manager under disk drives and it is there as a usb drive showing no problems but I can seem to get it to show up in my computer, i have tried other enclosures that I have other drives in to no avail. some help please.

 

You don't say which version of Windows (consider making a My System list in the User CP, it would also tell us about your hardware). Assuming Win XP, look in Disk Management (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management). It should tell you about it's "health ", formatting, etc.

update: I right clicked on my computer and selected "manage" from there I formatted the drive and it seems to work fine now. thanks
