Is it possible to export NS 6 mail, account settings, into Outlook Express or another mail program e.g. Incredimail?

I have found a freeware program which will export NS 6 address books onto Outlook and others. This can actually do a lot more, but sadly not mail. Read more at :

    Hi Dr. JB,

To move your Netscape mail to OE, you can do that by using the Import feature in OE. In Outlook choose to import Communicator email and when prompted for the location, give it the location of your 6.2 mail directory. I don't use OE so I don't know the exact procedure.

You wouldn't be able to transfer the mail account settings. Those settings would have to be reconfigured in each Mail Program.

    Hi again Ramona

Sorry, nope, that doesn't work. The import menu on OE lists Netscape Communicator and Netscape Mail. Using either of them, and browsing to the mail folder, displays an error message "no messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open ". I've closed NS down and tried again, same error. So maybe I'll have to install 4.7, import from 6, and then import with OE :( All this just to use a different mail application and have access to old mail.

You know what...am gonna buy some stationery, a pen and stamps

    Snail Mail anyone?

    Hey Dr. JB,

I can tell you that 4.79's Messenger is the best Mail program. If you have 4.79 on your system, you could opt to leave your Messages on the server and access them from either browser.

I've read that Netscape uses the Unix "*.MBoX" format for mail, which is supported by every mail client the singular exception of Outlook and Outlook Express.

For any decent mail client, you simply copy the mailbox folder from the Communicator/MAIL directory to the (client) MAIL directory.

Keep your AV program running and updated -
Outlook and Outlook Express are responsible for spreading 99% of all email viruses.

    Cheers!

    Or perhaps pidgeon post?

Don't talk to me about viruses...got badly caught out a few years ago

My Norton AV is running and updated regularly. As for OE, I'm not using it. I've installed Incredimail, and altho' it's a bit gimmicky, it is....well, incredible:cool: That can only import from OE or NS 4.7, so maybe will have to dig up my 4.7 disc.
