W2K explorer is not recognizing my CDrom and CDRW drives. What I mean is, I cannot explore any disks of any kind.

Windows sees the drives and will install/uninstall them automatically with no problems at all. The devices are working properly with no conflicts. I can even put in a music cd and push the play button on the drive itself, and it will play the music.

To make things even more fun, Nero (the burning software I use) can see and read both drives and write to the burner just fine. It is getting frustrating to copy the cd to a *.iso format just to read my cd's.

I have been using a program to create virtual drives to mount the *.iso files under different drive letters (essentially it fools windows into thinking i have more physical drives than i actuall do). I do not think this is necesarily related because i have been using it for 6+ months and this problem has been plaguing me for only about a month.

Anyone have any Ideas w/o reinstalling W2K?

Could it be an ASPI layer problem? most likely not as I'm not too sure exactly what it does but I think Nero has its own ASPI layer and thats why it works.

Try reinstalling the ASPI layer with ForceASPI
