Explorer won't open

When Windows 98 starts, I receive an error that states explorer will not start.
The desktop appears, but icons and Windows toolbar do not appear.

I have run a full scandisk, and an system restoration from the tools folder on the Win98 cd, neither of which solved the problem.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hello tab01234,

Looks like you used the "Search Function" of this board and became your own troubleshooting expert. Satisfying isn't it? I will not even ask you to be specific in what your particular problem was or what you did to fix it. I know this problem can have many root causes, but.... if ever you feel particularly chatty and care to expand on this post and share your brush with disaster, please do so. It may be your "Archived Post" that a fellow user will click on, at some future time, when suffering the same problem. It may be nice if the searcher found the fix in here. Not truly necessary but nice just the same.
