Am working on a Dell XPS T600r p3/600 with ME, 20g quantum h.d.

Rebuilt this machine from scratch using the Dell Restore CD's but no matter what I do whenever I open explorer and access the c drive it comes up with a explorer caused an error in "unknown" and shuts down explorer. Can open up My Computer and access the c drive but not using explorer. Ran scanreg /fix but didnt fix this problem.

Have run all the diagnostic problems I have in my arsenal and all test indicate nothing wrong with the hardware. Did have 1.2mb of bad blocks when I reformatted the drive but no other errors indicated.

Not sure if this is a h.d. or ME problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi gghartman...

Did you run PowerMax to test your Quantum HDD? Please note that even though this is Maxtor HDD software, it works with Quantum HDD's as Maxtor bought Quantum.

No havent run PowerMax and I will but have run PC Certify Pro diagnostics on the drive and it does pass those tests.

Its either to me a h.d. or ME situation but strange that even after a totally clean setup it is still giving me problems. I know ME wasnt even a good op system by microsoft but have rebuilt many ME's and after a rebuild they do seem to live on with no major problems.

Ran PowerMax and the SMART diags failed and the error code indicates that the drive should be replaced. So am replacing with a w.d. 40g and hopefully this will fix everything.

    Thank you.
