I am trying to minimize the number of icons on my desktop, and would like the My Computer icon to act as both an access to the various drives, as well as an Explorer menu showing all the various drives and folders on the left pane. What I would like to do is to get the shortcut to My Computer to open up with the various drives in the right pane, but with the C Drive expanded in the left pane, as such. Is there any way to get to this setup with just one click (of the shortcut on my desktop)? A lifetime access to Hotmail and membership in Ebay is the prize for anyone who can come up with an answer.:D

Open any folder and click tools>folder options>file types. In the list of file types click on "folder" to highlight it and then click the advanced button. In the list of actions click on explore to highlight it and then click the set default button.

This should get you what you want. However, doing this will cause all folders to open in an explorer type view. You can always right click and choose open though to get them to open normally. You could do this with my computer too to get the explorer type window. Right click on it and choose explore. Or is that how you got the pic?

Edit: OOPS! I see you want to have the c: drive expanded on the left side. Doing the way I suggested will just have all of the drives there but none expanded. I'm not sure how you'd get it to open that way. I messed with some different switches but wasn't able to get it to work for the my computer icon. Maybe somebody else knows.

    Not possible AFAIK.

Close would be C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n,/e,C:\ in the Target of the shortcut properties, but that will show the contents of the "C" drive in the right hand pane.

Yeah I didn't think so. But I thought it was worth asking anyways.
