My laptop has XP Pro installed, SP2, Explorer 6.0. This morning I turned on the computer and got a blank screen. Had to unplug and remove the battery to shut down. Did this three times until I finally got to my desktop. The problems appeared immediately. If I go to Google and type something in, I am always redirected to another website. If for example I go to Windows Update, there is no internet connection. Fortunately I saved BBS as a shortcut and was able to get through. This is what I have tried:

Ran sfc /scannow with zero results.
Reinstalled Explorer 6.0 from the XP CD and still nothing.
Went to Windows Update and couldn't get through.
Tried running System Restore and nothing happened - the page just froze.
Went to my C: drive and tried running error-checking, nothing happened.

I ran out of options. My last choice is doing a repair install or a clean install. I am away from home for a few months and this is the only computer I have.
Since Google is worthless to me, I can not do any searches. I use Outlook Express and my emails have not been effected. This is a real mystery. Without this laptop I am in deep trouble. Any suggestions you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Can not access any of the three mirror sites. All three say the same, "The page cannot be displayed ". This is more than a Google problem. The same problem occurs when attempting to connect with Windows Update. There are very few sites I can connect to.
