When trying to delete files or rename files, (any kind of file), from within Windows Explorer, or Windows Photo Gallery, the app freezes and has to be closed using Task Manager. There are no error codes. After Task Manager closes explorer, everything works fine. It just starts clocking and won
't stop. I just installed SP-1, but I do not know if the problem existed before that.

HP Pavillion A1710n, Vista Prem, SP-1, AMD 4200, all important updates installed.

    Thanks, Tim

More info on the problem. The Administrative event log listed it as:

The program Explorer.EXE version 6.0.6001.18000 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel.

I have tried disabling all third party shell extensions, no improvement. I uninstalled Visata SP-1, no improvement. I performed full system scans with Norton 360 and Etrust...no problems. I also restored info from a past restore point, no improvement.

Any other suggestions?? Really don't want to do a full restore and start over, but if I must.......

    thanks

Not really. Since you removed SP1 & the problem continued, it doesn't sound like SP1 is the problem.

Does the same problem exist in safe-mode?

It could mean that there's a driver loading (or a 3rd party shell extension) that is causing the grief.

I'd start by checking for updated drivers (video, chip set).
