I posted this in another forum but havent recieved any good info so I am posting here. Here it goes: (3 diff posts)

    Original post

    Windows XP SP2 home edition
    P3 700 Mhz
motherboard compaq 06coh intel 82810E chipset
128 mb of ram - 6 months old
seagate 80 gig hd master NTFS 7200rpm - 8 months old
    seagate 10 gig hd slave FAT32 7200rpm

    Problems:
Blue screen of death - caused by zone lab firewall - removed firewall -
havent had any blue screens so far

60% of the time explorer.exe crashes - when computer starts or
searching or opening a file - sometimes event log says its module
    shell32.dll event Id 1000

Drwtsn32.exe crashing right after explorer crashes - faulting module
    dbghelp.dll event Id 1000

NT AUTHORITY/SYStem shutdown - it was a major prob a few months
back - I ran several blaster\isass removal tools, they never found
anything, only happens every once a in a while now

    Solutions Ive tried:

Ran windows update: all critical updates added

Scanned with eztrust antivirus, Panda antivirus, housecall, windows
malicious software removal tool - panda found some spyware, just
    cookies though

Scanned with adaware, trend micro spyware, and windows defender -
    nothing found

    Chkdsk on all drives

SFC /SCANNOW with xp cd - explorer and drwatson crashed
    immediately after it finished

Regsupreme registry cleaner - the crashes seemed to slow down a bit
    after I ran this program

Seagate diagnostic tools - memory test: passed
    controller test: passed
    80 gig physical diagnostics: passed
File structure test: Failed with critical errors
    10 gig physical diagnostics: passed
    File structure test: passed

What can I do about the file system. I dont really want to reload my hard drive.
I have an ethernet card in the computer that Im no longer using. Could this be causing the problem?

    Second and third posts:

I low leveled my hard drive and installed windows xp (Sp1) again. The seatools software is still telling me the NTFS file system is corrupt. But chkdsk says everything is fine. So can anyone tell me whats going on?

    Third

I reformatted my hard drive again with the windows xp cd. So now my seagate diagnostics cd says everything is fine but Im still having problems. Now mostly with 00000050 and 0000008e event Id 1003. When I looked on microsofts site it said this is the haxdoor virus. But when I look in the registry where ms says to look I dont find anything. Ive run two virus scanners and they didnt find anything. Ive run microsoft's windows memory diagnostic and it says everything is good. Chkdsk says the same. Im about ready to throw this **** thing out the window and go by a mac. Can someone please help me...

    Fourth post:

So Ive uninstalled IE6 and this seems to have resolved the issue. Explorer.exe has stopped crashing along with everything else. My computer also seems a lot faster. My question is what in IE could be causing this problem. I did a sfc /scannow so that should have replaced any bad system files. So im thinking it must be a corrupt active x control or browser helper? As far as Im concerned I could care less whether I have IE or not. I dont use it other then to download updates. Does anyone know whether or not leaving IE uninstalled will affect automatic updates? How about windows explorer? I know windows explorer and Ie are joined at the head lol. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I have just one question for now.

Are you sure it was EXPLORER.exe and not IEXPLORE.exe that was crashing.

Explorer is a built in Windows system file. Iexplore.exe is the IE file.

Just for testing I suggest you go to Start/Run and type EXPLORER. I just tried both and IEXPLORE would not run. But EXPLORER brought up a list showing My Computer all Partitions etc.

I had to edit file names because I made an error in them.

Well. when I do it right typing IEXPLORE at the Start/Rin line puts me on the Internet.

Again. EXPLORER puts me into My Documents.

Apparently I didnt uninstall Internet Explorer. Unlike windows me xp wont uninstall. I guess When I told it to remove IE6 it just reinstalled it(its just not on the start menu now, It still listed under programs though). The only other thing I did was disable third party browser extensions. Must be some kinda spyware that caused the problem.
