Explorer.exe application error when opening a *.AVI

    When trying to open a *.AVI file I get the Explorer.exe - Application Error dialog box with - The instruction at "0x054d415b" referenced memory at "0x00000000 ". The memory could not be "written ".
    This started when I copied *.AVI files to a CD with Roxio Easy Media Creator Version 7 and closed the CD with a write protect.
    I have used F8 on boot to safe mode dos prompt and copied clean copy of explorer.exe to the Windows directory. No change. Any suggestions? Thanks Dennis

    Does the same error come up after rebooting the pc and trying to open a file?

    The error appears when you click on the *.AVI file to highlight it.

    I have resolved the problem by un-installing Roxio Easy Media Creator.

    I have reinstalled Roxio Easy Creater version 7 with the same results. This version has no problems in the W2K PRO OS. There must be a problem in XP PRO OS. This version is no longer supported by Roxio. Therefore, no help to resolve.
