Newt, or one of you Guru's, can you point me to this location:
re:then there is a default setting somewhere that it always returns too regardless of where you were when you shut it down.

Thanks from Sunny Daytona Beach, Fl

    Hello bill,

Not clear on exactly what your asking. Shutting down explorer means shutting down the system.

To return to what you were doing after shutting down, hold the shift key, the standby button becomes the Hibernate button.

    Regards - Charles

Thanks for the quick reply, Charles.
My question is not about shutting down, but rather where is the default setting located in the registry for the Windows Explorer.
That is, for instance Win Explorer opens to C:\ and I want to set it to open to c:\x\.

Control that behavior by starting it from a shortcut with switches as shown Here.

    Thanks Newt.
You are da man ... of course we all know that ...
It sure seems like there was a registry setting that would 'default' explorer.exe to go where it was directed though ...
I'll 'control it through shortcut switches' as you have indicated.

I hope this finds you in great health and Spirit,

    ...well, that 'kinda' worked.
    the " /e " and the " /n " give opening errors that say /e and/or /n cannot be found.
without these the /select,desiredfolder work with a different view.

in any case, thanks again Newt.

Spacing on the thing is critical.

Here is mine that opens WE to the root of my C: drive

    C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e,/select,c:\

Note there is a space after .exe but none after that. If you want to open on a subfolder, just add it to the path.

From what I see in your script methinks I have a 'syntax error', in that I did not include the COMMA after the /e.
    duh ...
I did after the /select and that worked fine.
As I mentioned before, YOU da man, my friend.

    Thanks again Newt!

..by the way, I posted a question about the IE6, sp1 address bar and haven't seen any responses. This may not be the thread to ask, however my address bar correctly comes to the home page and within a few seconds changes to "type in your question now" (paraphrased, sorry) and I want it to STAY on the homepage URL.
this is not critical but it's a nuisance as it typically will not let me immediately type in any URL and requires me to delete the text before I can type anything fresh. I believe it changed after my fiancee' installed hotbar (ArrrrrrrG ! ) and I haven't been able to stop this procedure of the browser.
Any suggestion? Sorry if I am breaking your BBS rules about keeping on the same thread.
I'll post it again in another section if you'd rather ...

Hotbar probably gave you lots of spyware/malware and this is the sort of thing that some of it will do.

Download, update, and then run Ad-aware. Let it remove any/all it finds.

Then download, update, and run Spybot Search & Destroy and delete/fix all the items it finds and gives a check mark. Then click the immunize button to stop several hundred from ever bothering you again.
