    hi-

i hv just installed mozilla 1.6 in accordance with ramona's recommendation. thus far it appears to be somewhat facter than ns 7.1.

i had hoped that mozilla wud solve a problem i am having with newsgroups. when i get the message that a chosen message has expired and i attempt to click and remove all expired messages, the process appears to start. however, when it is complete, nothing has been removed. this was true in both ns 7.1 and mozilla.

is there something i shud b tweaking to correct this?

thanks for ur help !! emlsr

    Hi emlsr,

I've been trying to recreate your Newsgroup problem, and can't! Each time I click on the link: Click here to remove all expired articles , the expired message is removed.

You might try this and see if it might help:

    Close Mozilla and Quick Launch
    Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to your Mozilla Profile's News\news.server.name folder
    See: Profiles Folder Location
Delete all of the files in the folder except the hostinfo.dat file

    Open Mozilla Mail & Newsgroups
Select: Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | | Server Settings
Highlight the Newsgroup you just edited
Enter the number of headers you want to download

    Open the Newsgroup
When the "Download Headers" dialog appears, check the "Mark remaining headers as read" box

Wait for the headers to download, then go to the View menu and select
    Messages | Unread.

If this doesn't help, and if you haven't tried to do so already, then I would remove all Newsgroups Accounts (if the problem occurs on all Newsgroups), close Mozilla, reopen Mozilla, and resubscribe.

    hi-

sorry for the delay in responding, but i decided to try ur suggestions a number of times before advising that they had not changed things.

the only change that i experienced is that when i limited the number of messages downloaded, there were many fewer expired messages included in the list.

when u state that clicking the "click here to remove.......messages" removes the expired message, does it remove the one hilited or all expired messages as the wording suggests.

    thanks, emlsr

    Hi emlsr,
It should remove all expired messages, or it does here.

    remove expired newsgroup mess

Roamona: I've set it to remove mess over 30 days old. I used to get the option to remove expired mess. Some groups have mess 3-4 months old. Joe R

    Hi Joe,

For Netscape 7.1, when you look at your Newsgroups settings, under "Offline and Disk Space" which settings do you have enabled?

Also how many messages do you download? This setting would be under "Server Settings ".

Not larger than 100KB; not older than
30 days; Remove older than 30 days

    PS: I'm using NS 7.0
