Even some of the "security experts" are way off base. For example, this guy,Ross Anderson, professor of security engineering at the Computer Laboratory at University of Cambridge , says, "Computer criminals differ from ordinary criminals in that they're more rational...Malware writers are rational, as are botnet herders. "

He's missing a huge point. ALL criminality is irrational. Malware writers and botnet herders are as irrational as any other criminal.

Some criminals are compenent though. Competence has little to do with rationality or sanity. Hitler was quite insane and quite irrational, but he was competent at what he did. Napolean was a nutcase, but was a competent general.

There's really no such thing as "criminal genius ".

A corrallary is that the more competent a computer user is, no matter the operating system, the more secure his computer will be.
