I'm trying to alter my partitions in XP using Partition magic 7. I have done this before on the same set-up without problems but on re-booting I get a message that Partition Magic can't lock the drive. I think this is because something has exlusive access to the drive. How do I found out what is claiming exclusive access and then disable it???

    Help would be appreciated.

    Windows has it.

Make the Partition Magic Rescue disks frm the CD.

This will give you a 2 disk set. Boot from the 1st, and use the second to partition.

Rescue disks is not the best name for these the are really PQmagic for DOS! This will do it.

An aside. Do a scandisk before you try to partition.
