Greetings i am usinga help desk from http://liberum.org and it is working well, when we send a test email thought it, it is using the system default smtp connector which has been stopped and we have set-up an other one. My question is does IIs use a certian config for this or is this most likely in the asp pages???

I will take a stab at this :(

is this IIS server also your Exchange server? I get a feeling that it is from your post title.

If it is *not*, then I think the solution is to probably check your mx record.... the smtp service that is running on servers that are not Exchange servers will know automatically to look for an MX record for the domain that they are seeking. I have seen enough companies make the mistake of not creating an internal mx record for such applications. In these cases, smtp does what I call "going back to mamma" ---- if an smtp service is unable to find an mx record for a domain, then it will seek out the ip address associated with the destination domain and then try to establish an smtp session with that server, which can cause all sorts of weird non delivery reports if you don't know what you are looking at.

if this IIS server *is* your Exchange server, then I would check to see which Internet Connector the Default SMTP virtual server in the Exchange System Manager is tied to... try making that default smtp virtual server the bridgehead for the Internet Connector.

About your .asp page that is generating the smtp message - this could also be where to look. There are actually a couple of different ways to generate an SMTP message from an .asp page. For instance, it could be generating a FileSystemObject that is formated like an smtp message and placing it in the pickup directory of the wrong smtp service <shrug> or it could be using other methods (and I think I am butchering the use of the programmatic word "methods" here  ) To figure out *exactly* what that .asp page is doing will require you to open it up in notepad and look at the stuff in between the >% signs and follow the logic.

I think I have brain dumped about all I know to with this problem given the information that I have. I hope I have given you enough to look in some different areas to see if you can solve it.

    Best regards,

    Desiree

    Please splain

    1. yes exchange server and IIS6 are on the same 2003 box.
    2. I do not see anywhere to bridge the smtp to HTTP. the only bridge
connector i see is bridgeing our smtp connector to our dafault connector
to our smpt connector and that is done.

Can you please tell me how to bridge our IIs to our exchange, makes sense but i dont see where to do it.

    Michael

    (thanks for your help)
    :D

    Closed

We had to go in and use the adsi.msc tool to edit the pickupfolders location on the default conector to point to the second connectors queue,
