I'm setting up a new server to replace my failing 7 yr old dinosaur. The old server is a Win W2K Advance Server, running Exchange 2000, and Active Directory. My new server will be a Win 2003 server (Standard edition) and I'll be installing Exchange 2003.
My question(s) are, I know I need to install AD on the new server. However, I do not want to make it a Domain Controller. When I run "dcpromo" I'm prompted to decide which type of DC I want to make this machine. How do I, or can this be avoided? This machine will only house Exchange, no other applications will run on this server.
Also, what about SP2 for Exchange. I've only seen beta versions on MS web site.

Why do you NEED to install AD on the new server? Are you decomissioning the W2K server? If so and it is the only DC on your domain, then yes you will have to make the new one a DC if you want things to keep working.
