Hi guys, I recently moved My Documents to a new partition and everything went smoothly.
Not sure if this is related, but since then I cannot save files in Excel. I get this error:

The file could not be accessed. Try one of the following:

Make sure the specified folder exists
make sure the folder that contains the file is not read-only
make sure the file name does not contain any of the following characters : <>[]:| or *
Make sure the file/path name doesn’t contain more than 216 characters

Obviously I've obeyed all these rules. I can save files without problem in other apps. It's just Excel that's the problem. I've tried other extensions but still no go.

Anyone able to share some advice to get around this problem?

    Thanks in advice,
    Jo

Keep in mind that the file/path name includes three characters to represent the drive, the characters in folder names, the backslash character between folders, and the characters in the file name. Relevant MS Knowledge Base article.

If you are still under the 218 character limit, the I'd suggest putting your microsoft excel/office installation disc into the drive and performing a Help > Detect and Repair...

Since you MOVED the folder to a new location did you let Excel know the new place? The old location may no longer exist.

    Open up Excel, then:
Tools - Options - General Tab
Type in new location under Default File Location.

Thanks for your replies, guys. The problem turned out to be a [ character that I had accidentally put in my new D/My Docs directory name.
