I have had QuattroPro for a couple of years now. I have written several spreadsheets which incorporate macros. I want to use these in documents to others. But most users have Excel and not Quattro. I can transfer the spreadsheet and the macro to Excel and everything looks normal. However I now find that Excel will not execute Quattro macro as Excel uses Visual Basic about which I know nothing. Does there exist an application or emulator which will convert Quattro macros to VB?

YES IT WILL ALLOW LOADING QUATTROPRO 8 FILES TO EXCEL 2000. BUT THERE APPEARS TO BE NO WAY TO ACTUALLY "EXECUTE" QUATTRO MACROS IN EXCEL. SO I GESS I WILL HAVE TO LEARN ENOUGH ABOUT VB TO RE-WRITE THE MACROS.

I WAS HOPING THAT SOMEONE HAD WRITTEN A PROGRAM TO CONVERT QUATTRO MACROS TO VB. BUT SO FAR, NO ONE HAS COME FORWARD.
    THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

I can't guarantee your particular macros will run using this method but try and see. Open the file with Quattro Pro and save it as a QP/DOS file (that's a .WQ1 suffix) Excel claims to be able to open and run most macros from that type of file.

You may find more help on this subject by looking in the Excel Help files.

    Good luck.

    I found this from M$:

Will my QuattroPro or Excel 97 macros convert to Excel?
Excel 97 macros - Yes, because Excel 97 macros were created with Microsoft's Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), the same utility used by Excel. QuattroPro macros - No. You will have to rewrite them in Excel, using VBA. Early versions of Excel used a macro language called XLM. The VBA language was introduced in Excel 5, and is vastly superior in every way. XLM has been phased out, so for new macro development, you need to use VBA.

So I guess I will have to learn VB and re-write the macros. It just seemed to me that somewhere, someone might have written a macro converter program. Thanks for your reply...

I'm sorry dmorse03, you seem to have gotten no mercy.

I'm guessing from what I read that IF the Quattro file was created in QuattroPro dos originally, rather that having been created in QuattroPro Windows and subsequently converted to a .wq1 file, that you could possibly execute the macros therein.

At any rate, you'll be a wiser and happier man when you get a working knowledge of VB. ;) I haven't mastered it myself, and like you, I prefer to stick with QuattroPro for my sheets. I have some real masterpieces and they do not translate well to Excel, even without macros.

    Best regards.
