In Excel when grab the bottom left and hold the Ctrl key down you can auto fill the cells with the sequence of numbers, ie grabbing 1 will make the following cells 2, 3, 4 etc. Is there any way of doing this only starting at 1.01 and filling to 1.02, 1.03, 1.04 etc.

Just tested in Excel XP/2002 and it works in exactly the same way here... filled in 1.01 and just went, however the swedish decimal character is a comma (,) so I thought I'd better test this before I went running with a non working solution.

If you need to autofill with true decimal numbers you'd need two numbers from the actual sequence (in this case 1.01 and 1.02) and you then mark both cells and drag the handle or CTRL+Click the handle.

This also works if you need to autofill by continuously adding a number - ie. if you need to always add 3 to the previous number you can start the sequence with 1 and 4 in the first two cells and autofill will keep adding 3 to the previous number....

Works with weekdays and the names of the months as well, and many other things I suppose :)

i've tested with excel 2000, it worked fine too. Just enter the first two entries of your list e.g. 1.01, 1.02, highlight them and then grab the bottom left part of the cell to automatically fill in the rest of your list.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried putting 1.01 and 1.02 in cells A1 and A2, selecting both cells and dragging the right hand botton corner while holding down the Ctrl key. This however just copies the value of A1 & A2 into A3 & A4 respectively. However if you hold the Alt key instead of the Ctrl key it works. I've tried this on my Excel 97 at home I will try it on my XP at work on Tuesday.

If you just drag the handle without holding any key autofill does it's job... my guess is that holding down CTRL just copies the values in the selected cells.
