When I double-click on an Excel file (.xls) from explorer, Excel is launched but it says it can't find the file. I have checked the PATH that it states in the error message but the file is indeed there. Any ideas?

Rob - Welcome to the Board :)

As double clicking on an .xls file opens Excel it would appear that there is nothing wrong with the file association.

If you move/copy the file to another location does it open on double click?

Does the file open with the File > Open dialogue box in Excel?

Is just one file affected or all .xls files?

Suggest you try Help > Detect & Repair and see if that solves the problem.
