Every Time My Laptop Gets To The Desktop I Get BSOD

Hello i'll provide as much detail as i can.

I have a Gateway CX2426 Tablet PC, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, DVD drive, I think its a Intel Centrino 1.44 GHz processor i can get specific hardware stats if they're needed i dont have the laptop with me at the moment.

This happened about 2 weeks ago now, i came back to residence after the christmas break and that very night set up my laptop and maybe an hour or two later it shut down. i can't remember now if it shut down with a blue screen or just turned off but now everytime i reboot or shut off the computer and then turn it on again everything loads fine until the desktop, then after a certain time that varies although its almost never more than 10-30 seconds i get a BSOD and it reboots the computer and boots back up right to the desktop and again BSOD after 10-30 seconds and reboots, it keeps going like that unless i do something like safemode.

I get error messages sometimes at the desktop screen. Things like "Your system has recovered from a serious error" or some program cant load.

One time i got Windows is being shutdown by NT Authority and the 30 second countdown. the file it listed as the problem was windows/system32/Isass.exe

I looked that up and found a lot of information on the sasser virus. Descriptions of what it was doing was very similar to what was happening to my computer so i thought that was it. However i've gone into safemode (only way to have it running long enough) and run the sasser removal program from Symantec. It came up with no detections. I should note that i can get BSOD in safemode from doing certain things, i think i got it once from trying to load Mozilla in Safemode and another time from trying to load Control Panel. I know my information is somewhat vague and i appologize for that.

So after the sasser removal tool failed to fix the problem i gave up on it being sasser and on closer inspection i think sasser caused normal shut downs where as mine are BSOD. Typical methods for stopping sasser like "run>cmd>shutdown -i" did not work even if i could get it to stay on long enough for me to input the details of my controlled shutdown.

I've had many BSOD by now having tried over and over and over to get it to boot properly i did at one point turn off the restart on failure option so that when i got the BSOD i could record the information. This is what i got from that and i realize that this is incomplete:

At this point i have my Windows Disk coming from home and when i get it i plan to get my important files onto a usb drive and do a system restore from the disk or completely reinstall windows.

I appologize for the poor arrangement of the symptoms and such, any suggestions on what i can do short of an OS reinstall?

Yes i can get into safe mode. No last good configuration does nothing and i forgot to mention that i've tried several system restores through safe mode (various dates) and none of them solved the problem, in fact i think all told me that it couldn't be completed because there was a shut down before it could complete. As i mentioned above sometimes i get BSOD even while in safemode.

So thats a yes safe mode works, and no last good configuration doesn't fix anything.

 

Update: Since this is my school laptop i had to go ahead and try to get it running asap so when i got my Gateway OS disk this afternoon i used it. I followed the instructions on the CD and then on the screen going through a system restore utility and choosing to do a destructive restore (all personal files lost and factory settings and files restored, something like that). throughout the formatting i got numerous alerts telling me such and such a file was having trouble copying, or that certain files were corrupt and could not be copied. Never the less the process completed and my CD tray opened and it said click the restart button so i did.

The system restarted got just past the black screen where it gives me 2 seconds to start a system recovery, flashed a blue screen with what looked like one or two lines of text then restarted and now thats all it will do.

SO i tried to do another system restore and format the drive again seeing as there were all those problems the first time. About halfway through the second restore/reformat i recieved a BSOD:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to pervent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this message restart your computer, if you see this again follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video Adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

and thats where i am now. At this point i'm starting to desperately need a computer up and running for my school work and it doesn't seem to be anywhere near working. Any help is appreciated but it probably won't be long before i take it to Best Buy and tell them to deal with it, i have a four year warranty and its only a year old.

Possible bad or incompatible RAM. Also the cdfs.sys error could be due to a bad CD drive or connection.

 

I've tried the formatting several times now and its getting to the point where it will now bring up a kind of windows screen and start installing all the programs that the unit originally came with from the factory (75 of them) however after several tries it has yet to complete this. It either freezes or BSOD before completion.

 

All the hardware was the same. Thanks everyone for their time, i've given the system over to the Best Buy tech department, i just don't have time to be working on it anymore (i have a service plan with them). So again thanks to everyone who posted a suggestion.
