    alert manager event
    257
unable to send alert to \\.\pipe\alert manger. Cannot find file specified.

I am getting this message after a system crash and a restore from tape.

    Any ideas?

Sue can you get past this error and then run normally?

EDIT: What was the failure that caused a restore of a backup?

Email server crashed. Windows 2000 advanced with exchange 2000. I used a tape backup from the day before.

Ok, but does it pass this error and run normally?

    Does everything appear to work?

Or are you saying you can not get past this?

If email and Exchange are running properly. I would say this may be related to a Virus scanner.

These event descriptions are a little cloudy. Perhaps uninstall the viris scanner, then clear the logs and reboot. No error then, then reinstall the Virus scanner.
