HI ALL- HELP PLEASE!?

I keep getting the following error-

7023- The IPSEC Services service was terminated with the following error: An invalid argunent was supplied.

This basically hangs the PC at start up, no icons work, nothing. Only option is to hit the big switch. I then have to do this over and over a random number of times until the PC starts normally (3-25!) and the error is not present. I have tried the MS site which has nothing usesful so i am hoping someone out there can assist??...Please!.........

There's no reference to the exact error message you received, but my hunch is that the same method would apply to get out of this jam:

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, delete the following registry subkey and then rebuild the policy:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ IPSec \ Local
To do this, follow these steps.

Note When you follow these steps, you delete the local policy. You must rebuild the local policy.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Delete the local policy registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ IPSec \ Local

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the subkey.

Quit Registry Editor.

Rebuild a new local policy store. To do this, Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 polstore.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.

Verify that the IPSEC Services component is set to automatic, and then restart the computer.

Thanks for the advise, i have followed your suggestion but to no avail, i still have the problem. However, can you please advise me how to do your suggestion number 3- # Verify that the IPSEC Services component is set to automatic, and then restart the computer??

Also, do you have any other ideas for me to resolve this problem?

As for #3, Start > Run and type services.msc, click OK.

In the list of services, find IPSEC Services.

Hi there, thanks for that i have tried it but i still get the problems at start up and have to continually reboot.

Are there any other settings that i could try altering which might do the trick, ie what happens if i change the 'automatic' to 'disable'?

Also, when i try and start the service via properties, it comes back with error 10022- An invalid argument was supplied.

Is this something i have done? i havent insatlled or deleted anything new for ages and this has only been going on for a week now, but just lately it will not do anything without approx 6 reboots at start up.................

I was having a slightly different 7023 IPSEC problem. Something about authentication. I disabled the service and the event did not come back.

I am on a standalone computer on DSL and it has no affects that I can see.
