Has anyone used any eTrust software ?

If so how does it preform ?

I ask because my ISP is offering EZ Armor ( AV & Firewall ) for free as Long as I am a Road Runner Customer.

But before I do download it I need to find out if it can be un-installed if need be.

I also need to find out if it will work properly behind my Linksys Router.

You probably already know that I use it. And it comes with an uninstaller, right on the all programs list. I'm also hooked to a netgear wireless router. It is not only lightweight, it's effective. No problems to report. :)

I've been using eTrust since the old InoculateIT days. Never had a major problem with it except when they released that ghastly version 6.0.

I too have been using it since the InnoculateIT days. I have nothing but praises to sing for this software. It's never misbehaved in any way. Like noahdfear said, it's easy on the system and seems to be quite reliable. Uninstalls have never been a problem.

    Thanks guys.

Now all I need to do ( am in the process ) of finding out whether it would be an online install or download and then install.

I am hoping for a choice of Download only.

I am hookd up to a Wired Linksys Router.

AH what the heck? Go for it. If it don't work it won't be my first mistake.

1st Step. Make sure I have a recent Restore Point.

Thanks for the info. I will for sure check the version info.

ISP s do not always supply the latest.

Hope it works out for you. I know several people that use it and they're all 100% satisfied. I doubt you'll have any problems although as we all know, with software and computers there's never any guarantee. Let us know how it works out for you.

I don't remember ever having any problems with version 6.0 but it's quite possible I missed that particular version. I can't say for sure. For a reference for you I'm currently using version 6.1.3.1. It's possible there's a newer version though. It's been quite a while since I last checked.

Anything and everything can be uninstalled!

I don´t understand how people who like to try new programs and who have an experimental inclination, dare rely on System Restore.

I create an Image using Ghost before installing anything new and I can afford to do whatever I like in the registry because I can "roll back" to square 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 depending on what I´d like to acchieve. 1-6 are Images at certain stages of the installation.

People may argue that they do well with System Restore but they can´t set a restore point and transfer the whole system to a new harddrive.
I did just that two weeks ago and it took some ten minutes, excluding setup time for the harddrives themselves.

    Thanks Guys

All in all you guys have answered my question with what seems to be a common feeling that it should be OK. But I can not and will not rule out what Zander said either.

I apply that thinking to ANYTHING I do with this PC.

Next crash or expiration of my Norton subscription, e-Trust is going on. Already downloaded it months ago, just sitting on my D drive waiting for an install. Goodbye, Norton, you used to serve me well, but I could post a thread of reasons to switch. It's just too difficult to extricate Norton from the comp, or the switch would have been done weeks and weeks ago!

    Johanna,

Me too!! But Dag-Gone-it Mine runs out in Sept....... and it's been some time since I had a crash. (Knock on wood!!:) )

    Christer,

My sentiments too. Ever since I found out about Aconis. Which I personally like better than Ghost. Eventually I'll have no Norton programs on either of my systems.

    Hi irdreed!

I have not yet been burned by Norton, apart from it messing with Windows Messenger. Maybe Murphy has noticed that I´m covered by Ghost and decided to "do" someone else instead.

Or like some older member of our family used to say, bringing an umbrella makes the sun shine!

For me, Ghost works well. I have heard good things about Acronis True Image, though but not enough to warrant a change. I have a hate/love relationship with learning curves and in this case it is more hate than love.
I would never use the application from within Windows anyway since I don´t understand how it is done.

    Christer,
Thanks for the comeback. I understand your feelings for Norton....why mess with success, eh??
Throughout most of my career before I retired the motif was "Change" and it did bother me at the time. Always something newer and better coming along due to the changing technology, so off to school I'd have to go. So I do understand.

If I may, I have a link to a discussion you may or may not have seen about Acronis and may be of some interest:

    (This is scarry....I think I know how it's done within Windows:eek: )

    irdreed,
that was a mammoth thread requiring two cups of coffee!

Somewhere in the middle of it, the "HOW QUESTION" was asked but the short answers of having to close certain programs and it locking the drive, indicate to me that it is very close to booting into DOS.

Any more info on the subject to make me too, think that I know?

Hmmm...Just two cups??? That's one reason I went ahead & printed it out....so I could digest it over time.:)

My wierdo thoughts from my devious old brain leads me to think that there's something in the Acronis program that sort of looks over the system, maybe Acronis is like a moveable camera, and yet not seem to be a part of the System to take the "Picture" i.e., the Image. For example I've seen and used some programs that literally shift themselves to other areas so they can "operate ". So it's possible within the Acronis program it may have a lot of macro "jump and return instructions ".

Like I said that's my weird take on it...Don't know if this is true or not, since it's been over 15+ years since I've had to do any serious program writing and my brain is a little older and maybe fuzzy. :D :D
