I've installed the Free Extended Task Manager but, when I try to open it, I get an error message reading "ETML Error -9 ". A search of the BBS turns up no information, nor does a search of the web.

Has anyone run into this error and, if so, were you able to correct it?

    Pete ...

Egg on my face ... it never occurred to me to use more than one search engine, and I don't normally use Google. Unfortunately, even a Google search doesn't turn up anything useful.

It did find ads for a couple of programs which I'm not about to install or use, as I simply don't trust any program which says it will find hundreds, if not thousands, of errors on my computer and then fix them. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Fortunately, I can still use the built-in Windows Task Manager.

BTW, for those still relying on Ctrl-Alt-Del to access the Task Manager, Ctrl-Shift-Esc will take you directly to it ... no going through the intermediate screen.

I looked through the thread, but trying to run Free Extended Task Manager in compatibility mode doesn't work for me ... I still get the error.

The ads I was referring to appear at the bottom of the page opened by the link in your first post.

FWIW, there's also a program called XTM (Extended Task Manager), which WILL run on my computer, but it costs $55 US, and I don't need all of its features ... I just need to be able to close the occasional program which won't run, but leaves an open process in Task Manager.

Thanks for the input. I already have several of the process monitoring programs installed and, as I said, I really only need to be able to kill a process when necessary, and Windows' built-in Task Manager does that.

What I really need information on is what might be causing the ETML error, and how to eliminate it.

If you're talking about the authors of Free Extended Task Manager (FETM), the answer is "yes ", and any number of posters have complained about getting the same ETML -9 error. Most of them were able to get around it by running FETM in compatability mode, but that doesn't work for me.

Even though the issue hasn't been resolved, I'm going to close the thread only because other options are available.

Sorry I was so long in responding to your post #9, but I had other things on my plate and simply forgot about the issue. Yesterday Arie PM'd me, asking me to please continue the thread, but I was out of town and today was the first opportunity I had to do so.
