ethernet cards not giving IP address!!!

I have two ethernet cards fitted - one networks two pcs at home the other connects to cable broadband.

After reformatting the hard drive (don't ask!!!), I have the home network responding well to both cards, but neither of the cards has an IP address or accept "renew IP address ".

Having discussed the matter at length with the broadband company, they could not determine where the problem lies.

Where did I go wrong?

The cards are:

Realtek 8139b
D-link DFE-530tx

Any suggestions?

Do you have the right drivers loaded?
Does your ISP support PPPoE or DHCP assignment?
Can you assign a static IP address?

 

When you say that neither card has an ip address or will accept an ip you mean from your ISP?? both cards are in the same pc right? anyways, you need to set one card to retrieve the IP from your ISp or set that one manually however your ISP prefers, you should then install ICS assuming your using your pc with the two NICS as a gateway/router for your home network, and use the ICS utility to connect to the net........not sure i understand the problem exactly so if not feel free to wack me
