I have a Motorola Cable Modem model SB5101 which came with an Ethernet Cat 5 cable. The cable needs to be replaced. Would a Cat 6 cable work with this modem?

That shouldn't be a problem. I have some CAT6 hooked up to my old Motorola Surfboard 4100.

    AceH,

You're welcome. Let me know how you like your new modem. I am looking at possibly buying one and stop renting the one I have. Thanks.

    Mike,

I help a number of people in the retirement community where I live. There are 250 or so of us here who use the SB5101 Motorola (we're captive to the cable provider our community uses). They seem to be pretty dependable. Occasionally one will go bad but most of the problems I encounter are fixed by a simple reboot of the modem - mainly due to power surges within the individual's apartment.

Thanks Virginia. I figure that I could save myself some rental money if I bought one. Trying to cut my cable bill anyway I can.
