I posted a message a while ago about my Dell Laptop hanging on shutdown and restart. I am running Windows XP Professional service pack 1. There is a process called etdsvc.exe when I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and look in the Processes tab under Task Manager. If I kill the etdsvc.exe process my machine reboots and shuts down fine. When the etdsvc.exe process is running my machine hangs. I can't seem to find anything about this process on the net. Does anyone know what software needs this? Thanks in advance.

Can you do a double check that you've got the spelling of the process correct?

The spelling is correct. Since I posted this message I found the problem. I have encryption software running on my laptop and it's related to it. I reinstalled the encryption software and fixed the problem. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. Happy New Year to you!
