Tried to uninstall it and delete all the adobe folders from "program files" and "program files\common files" and "application data" in documents and settings. Then download the newest setup file from adobe and run it.

If all else fails, install Foxit Reader. Its way smaller and faster than adobe.

The Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility has been successful for others with your problem.

    See:
    http://www.google.com/search?num=50...ficial&hs=x19&q=reader+ERROR+1714&btnG=Search

    Microsoft Installer cleanup utility:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

    -------------------------------------

Solution 4: Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (stand-alone installations of the previous version only).

When a previous version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader was installed onto the computer as a Point Product (not part of a suite); use the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove it.

    1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft Support webpage at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301.
    2.
Run the executable to install the software.
Note: On Windows Vista you might need to right-click on the downloaded installer and choose the option to "Run As Administrator ".
    3. Choose Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up.
    4. Highlight any previous versions of Acrobat and Adobe Reader, including patches, and click Remove.
    5. Once all versions of Acrobat and Adobe Reader have been removed, Click OK and then exit the software.
    6. You should now be able to install Acrobat or Adobe Reader successfully.

    ----Special note--------------
The only possible exception that I am aware of is if the reader you have installed was part of "adobes creative suite ". If that is the case adobe has a special cleanup tool for this:
When Acrobat was installed as part of the Creative Suites, use the Adobe CS3Clean Script to remove it. (Acrobat 7.x and 8.x)

    1. Download the Adobe CS3Clean Script to the Desktop. (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html)
    2. Refer to KB402767 for further instructions on running the CS3Clean Script.
    3. Once the previous version has been removed using CS3Clean Script, you should be able to install Acrobat or Adobe Reader successfully.
