When I enter Outlook Express 6.0.2900, it works fine. When I exit I get an error message:

Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When I view the error message it says:

    AppName: msimn.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: ntdll.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00010f2b

I can't find any information on this problem. Can anyone help?

    Richard

I hope someone from the malware subforum will pick this up.

Coolweb has become more difficult to remove. Defender should have picked up something if you updated the definition files and scanned.

Did you in following the AUMHA "Quickfix" protocol linked earlier:

Install, update, and scan with Adaware?
Install, update, and scan with SpyBot?

    If so:

Install and run IEFix by MS-MVP Ramesh. Be sure to checkmark the SFC /Scannow option: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm

Bill, thank you for that but I have already tried that and still no help. When I try to reenter OE I get nothing. It won't come up until I restart. When I restart I get an "End NOW" warning telling me that 'DirectrDBNotifyWndProc' is stuck. When I select 'End Now' the syste restarts and I'm back to the beginning again.

    Bill;
I want to thank you for your efforts but I think I am running out of steam.

    When I did your nr.1., I got:
"LoadLibrary( "directdb.dll ")failed. The specific module could not be found. "

I am using TREND micro 2007 and it lets me shut off checking the email.

I followed the rest of your instructions and read the lengthy writeup on dbx files.

I tried compacting the files but that never completed without an error.
It looks like there is something wrong with my dbx files, but OE still works on the files I have(but very slowly).
When I check on the dbx files in my Local Settings, I find way more dbx files then I have folders for in OE. But I do recognize some of the folders that are present now. When I run OE-Mail Recovery on those folders, it fails. Indicating their is something wrong with the path.
I have tried using Microsoft Tech Support, but they have never really helped me in the past. I ussually just reinstall all my sofrtware and rebuild my system. I'm just afraid I'll loss all my email in the process.
