    Hi,
Was Cleaning out my daughter's computer and believe I erased something because now when WindowsXP loads, her computer shows a box with a red X in it and it reads on the top > "Springfld_Adv_Daemon wkscal.exe-Entry point not found" and below this it reads>" The procedure Entry Point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link Library MSDART. Dll ".
Also, I find the Restore is NOT working at all . When I click on the line to restrore to an earlier time, a black box quickly appears and then disappears and nothing happens.
I remember, last year or two years ago, I was missing my System Restore also and someone from on here sent me a link that allowed me to enable it again. Perhaps they would remember and be able to send me same link again. Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Linda :(

I think you may be able to glean the answer from here.

    Hi Linda and Suferdude,
Suferdudes link should offer you to a solution. It was short and sweet. On the other hand I have been working on one of my "minibooks" :) as I have a history/habit of doing so and since I have it, I might as well use it. Granted, it is not done and not edited but lightning and rain (in Houston) is going to force me go offline for a while, till the storm passes. Even in it's ruff state, it may have some information you find useful. I will check back into this post when the coast and the skys are clear..... :D (Lack of system restore function disturds me!)

    Description:
wkscal.exe is an application relating to Microsoft Work Suite. This is the Works Calender which allows you to schedule meetings and other dates and times of significance. Depending upon options/settings it will display popup reminders of tasks that you have entered into Microsoft Works on startup, if you use the reminder feature of MsWorks. You may have an icon for this in the "Startup" folder or a runline in the registry or both. This program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
    (wkscal.exe is related to wkcalrem.exe, wkdetect.exe, wkfud.exe, wkssb.exe, mhputilu.dll, wkufind.exe.)

Fixes vary depending on the underlying cause for the error. Things to consider:
Are files missing or corrupted that are required for MS Works Calendar:
Check: Open works and check your calendar for proper function.

Are MDAC files botched or version confused
    Update: MDAC

Should mdart.dll component be considered an issue
Yes it should be considered but I will leave any fixes for this alone for now as I believe the root cause is another issue. We can always come back to this.

Should the type of cleanup you did be considered and additional OS system fixes, as a whole rather than just pointing the finger at a particular application or module, be consider:ie; using runline command of sfc /scannow to do a repair/check (xp CD will/may be needed), or a recovery console repair of XP (last resort):
Most definitely, at this point it is unclear what type of cleanup you did and "what or how" you did it. [removed (deleted)]

Temporary fix would be to check for and remove the icon in the startup folder and look for and edit the run line in the registry. This is just a band aide.

First thing I'd try is the MDAC update......
While looking at your past posts to try to find the one your requesting. I think it is this one, by the way: Your past post with a RS problem:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=31249
If this isn't it: one way you can do this yourself is to check your own past posts archives by left clicking your membership name "Linda" and selecting "Find more post by Linda "

Any way...as said, while looking through these I noticed this one:
http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=22359 Which leads me to believe your never updated MDAC based on what may have been a misconception:
    What Is a "DataBase" Program?
A database program is an application that organizes various kinds of lists so they can be easily cross-referenced. A mail-order business, for instance, might ask its DB program to display the names of all its female customers between certain ages, who live in a certain zip code area and who bought something from the company within the past year. Other databases might include all the parts of a particular car model.
But the DB most of us use is simply a list of friends or relatives, along with their addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses, etc. MSWorks comes with a database utility and a word processor built right into one program. (Ms Office would fall into this category also.)

While doing a search for known problems and fixes envolving your error, one of the most often found solutions connected with this error was installing update MDAC. This seemed to work most often. NOTE* This does not take into consideration, a deeper XP problem as a result of your "Cleaning ", but is worth a shot.

    Error Fixed

    Thanks Suferdude and Goddez1,

You were both on the money. Since I do most of the upgrading on my daughter's computer also, I checked and found I had not installed the MDAC 2.8. Once I did that........ ALL those error messages disappeared AND the Restore reappeared once more!
    Thanks again, Linda

Linda, Thanks for the feedback so others can benefit. You did a fine job.

We just got lucky for sure. MDAC is so ubiquitous it's hard to understand how you wouldn't have had it from a number of sources. I think the answer is that you did have it but it got fractured. ;)

    Best regards.

Yahoo! I, too, am glad this has worked for you. Thanks for the update and your most welcome. I tend to agree with Suferdude, this update was a bit dated and surely some MS update, patch or application would have installed updated MDAC files at some point. Most likely the files involved got boogered in some unknown way or Windows registry got amnesia.

I shall consider this post a done deal... :) :)
