When I try to uninstall Mozilla Firefox in Control Panel, a message says please wait until a previous uninstall is finished. There is no previous uninstall.

    Windows 6.1, build 7601, Service Pack 1

    Firefox 28.0

(I want to use Google Chrome instead.)

No harm in leaving Firefox installed - I have IE, Firefox & Chrome installed without any issues.

The underlying problem in email. Yahoo insists on my logging in each time I open it. I left Firefox and went to chrome and it was ok. Now it's doing the same thing, but only sometimes. Troubleshooting points to cleaning out saved files.

Sounds like cookies more than anything else. If you have cookies enabled in your browser, AND check the option to stay signed in (which email and forum sites typically have), any browser should keep you signed in.

If you want to verify your cookie policies with Firefox, please let me know and I'll guide you in how to do that with Firefox.

Did you try this Search Box\(type)regedit\regedit.exe\H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. You will have to go each key to find the program you want to uninstall.
