    Hi sslam
Welcome to the boards. Have you been through the XP Hardware compatibility list to ensure that your system will take XP?

Not sure about your exact problem but I do know that the 98 fdisk /mbr is useless at best and harmful at worst for an XP system. That command builds a 9X style master boot record and NT systems (NT4/2K/XP) use a completely different one. Fdisk is OK probably but not needed.

My suggestion would be to boot from the XP CD and when you get to the screen, delete any existing partitions, repartition, format NTFS (to make sure all traces of FAT32 are gone since is somewhat resembles FAT32 for 9X) and install.

Also, why are you having to destroy and rebuild this PC so often?
