    Hi,
    My friend has an old computer running Windows 95. She has cleaned off many programs that she doesn't need including Netscape because she won't be going on the internet with this old computer.

    The problem is now that she has done this she gets the following error messages when she starts up the computer.

    The DOS window says it cannot open
    C:\Netscape\System\vntstimd.exe
    C:\Netscape\System\vtcprac.386
    C:\Netscape\System\dial386

    She just hits the enter key after each one comes up and then the system boots up.

    Can you tell us how to get rid of these error messages.

    Thank you.

    Jean

    Jean,

    This will take an edit of the system.ini file.

    Back up the system.ini file, which is located in C:\WINDOWS

    Click on Start | Run
    Type: system.ini
    Scroll down to [386Enh]
    Find the three Netscape entries
    device=C:\Netscape\System\vntstimd.exe
    device=C:\Netscape\System\vtcprac.386
    device=C:\Netscape\System\dial386

    At the beginning of each Netscape entry place a semicolon ;

    This will comment out, or disable the devices

    Thanks Ramona,

    I'll try to get to my friend's house shortly and do what you suggested. I'll let you know what happens.

    Jean,

    Please remember to back up the system.ini file before you do anything. You don't want to total Windows!

    Thank you Ramona. By editing the system.ini file, we do not get those error messages anymore. We are very happy.

    Thank you so very much again for the excellent help.
