I just bought a game pack software from Hasbro Interactive (Boggle, Trivial Pursuit and Yatzee) and when I put the disk into the drive I get a message that says "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT System file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows." What does this mean and how can I fix it? I have windows xp and a Gateway intel inside computer. I don't know much about the inner workings of computers so I am really confused. Please Help!!!

What platform are you trying to run this game on? Windows XP? Windows ME? Windows 98? At least let's start there. Lenny Chowns

There is a strange 'bug' of some kind that has made a recent appearance (past few months) that is wiping out or trashing autoexec.nt and sometimes config.nt on some 2K & XP PCs. Maybe NT4 as well - not sure.

The 'fix' is simply to place a new copy of those files back on your PC. Presto - instant cure. Until the next time they are trashed.

We are seeing problems where I work and have placed copies on the network for download but I've also placed spare copies on my PC so it just takes a second or two to replace if I lose the files. Yours may have been a one-time quirk or it may happen again.

Details and a 'patch' available from
