When I do a back I get this error message every time "Windows Backup skipped D:\ because it is on drive D:\, which is not a supported drive type "
This has only just started happening and I am confused because drive D:\ is my CD drive and there is no disk in there?

You need to look in your backup settings and deselect that drive.

And note too, it may have selected that drive as a place to "save" the backup.

Hi Bill and thanks but I wish it were that easy, My selected back up drive is F: which is my expansion drive and D: is not selected, it backs up all the other data and system image to F: except for "Windows Backup skipped D:\ because it is on drive D:\, which is not a supported drive type. "which I have no idea what it is" because the CD drive D: is empty!

RSinfo thanks for your input but I have been using Windows backup ever since Windows 7 came out and I have restored my data many times it is just that I get frustrated with a program that has worked perfectly for years and it now will not work perfectly, I refuse to give up that easily!

I wonder what would happen if you put a disk in your CD drive then ran the backup program again. If a disk is seen in the drive, it might then let you deselect it, then work properly from then on.

Maybe some Windows update messed up Win Backup. You should check up when the Win Updates were last installed & if your problem started after that.
