The other day, I had to install a ScanJet 4400c print on an HP laptop that has Windows XP. I thought that it was going to be a breeze. I installed by what the instructions said and I ran into some troubles.

When the program asked me to reboot, I did, and now get an error. Today, I unistalled the scanner and reinstalled it and it works, but I still get an error after XP reboots.

The error starts out with "Error signature......." I am wondering if this has to do something with driver signatures??

I am VERY new with XP, basically was intruduced to it last week. I am unfamiliar how this OS works...gradually learning.

Can anyone shead some light on how I can resolve this error?

I do have a printscreen of the error message. Email me and I can send you the printscreen of the error. For right now, the user can just click on 'Don't Send Report' and it goes away until the next reboot.

    Thanks for the help!

    Nick,
The easiest solution would be to use XP's system restore function (Start|Help and Support...) to restore XP to the closest restore point before you installed the ScanJet 4400c. Then I would visit HP's driver download area and get the latest XP driver(s) for the 4400c.
I've used system restore a couple of times myself and it works a treat!
Be aware that any program(s) you've installed since the restore date will need installing again. Email and created documents are not affected though.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Restore...

I actually kind of did that once (in the dos format when booting) but it still didn't help. Now today, when the user booted the laptop up, she got a message on the computer that it is going to shut down because it encountered an error. If you reboot the system again, it goes into windows, and then gets the other error I mention.

I think that I am going to have to do a total system restore. I have no idea what is causing this error. I also did download the latest driver for the scanner on the HP site.

    Thanks.

    Nick,
Use the system restore from the Start Menu|Help and Support...
The restore from the boot menu is different and won't correct your type of problem as your machine still boots, but with error messages.
The only other suggestion I have is drastic! A reformat. But sys restore is a little less of a hassle. :)
