Error installing AVG 8 ,any help?

    hi ..
    I had AVG 7.5 running on my pc..just was getting msg to upgrade it to AVG 8 free.
    so ,that was what i did,but now after downloading i am getting this msg while installing AVG 8.. "Local machine: installation failed
    Installation:
    Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
    Error 0x80070005 "

    If you search the Board for AVG 8 you will find that a lot of people have problems installing AVG 8. As a long time user of 7.5 I did not even try to install 8, although I know people who have had no issues with it.

    I suggest an alternative -also free - Avira

    Others prefer Avast -also free. I have both - on different computers :) and prefer the simplicity of Avira.

    I have avg 8 running on seval comps w/ no problems. But prior to installing it I uninstalled avg 7.x.

    I have to go with Pete on this one.
    If it installed fine, fine, but many, many people are having problems.

    Just for Info: No recomendation yet!

    I now have 12 stations running AVG8 (XP not VISTA) they all run normally.

    I did have one that had slow startup issues the next day even tho it was rebooted and shutdown the day I installed.

    For this one I uninstalled and cleaned up left over files and the registry then downloaded the latest release "Build 100.1315 ".

    That seems to have fixed all the issues. I think they are working on or may have fixed these issues.

    I do not install the security toolbar or Linkscanner.
